Beyond the ordinary

Phanerosis (from Greek phanerōsis) refers to a manifestation, disclosure, or making something visible that was previously hidden. It is heavily used in theological contexts to describe the open demonstration of the Holy Spirit's power or in specific literature regarding the "one hope" of the Bible.

Key Aspects of Phanerosis.

Biblical Meaning (1 Corinthians 12:7):

It denotes the tangible expression or sign of the Holy Spirit given for the common good of believers. It is the "manifestation of the Spirit".

Definition:

It means to make known, reveal, or bring to light.

Usage:

It often refers to a clear, indisputable demonstration of divine power.

Beyond The Ordinary

In Christian theology, The Gifts Of The Holy Spirit are generally divided into two main categories: The Seven Gifts found in the Old Testament and the Nine Spiritual Gifts (Charismata) described in the New Testament.

7 Of Heaven

The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

These are permanent dispositions traditionally derived from Isaiah 11:1–3. According to Catholic Answers, they are intended to complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them.

Wisdom:

The ability to see things from God's perspective.

Understanding:

Insight into the deeper truths of the faith.

A deep sense of reverence and love for God.

Fear of the Lord:

Awe and wonder in the presence of God’s majesty.

The Nine Spiritual Gifts (Charismata)

Listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8–10, these are manifestations of the Spirit given for the common good of the church. They are often grouped into three sub-categories.

Revelation Gifts.

Word of Wisdom:

A supernatural revelation of God's mind for a specific situation.

Word of Knowledge:

Facts about a person or situation that could not be known naturally.

Discerning of Spirits:

The ability to distinguish between divine, human, or demonic spirits.

Key Principles.

Purpose:

These gifts are meant for the edification (building up) of the church, not for personal status.

Source:

They are distributed by the Holy Spirit "just as he determines" (1 Cor 12:11).

Necessity of Love:

In 1 Corinthians 13, the apostle Paul emphasizes that spiritual gifts are "worthless" if they are not exercised in love.

Note: While gifts represent God working through a person, the Fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, etc.) represent God’s character working in a person.
