Natasha Kaplinsky and Michael Buerk (Series 4, Episode 18).

Plot:

Newsreaders Natasha Kaplinsky and Michael Buerk explore Sussex with experts Thomas Plant and Mark Stacey.

Hastings Highlight:

Michael Buerk visits Hastings to sample local "delights," including sharing traditional fisherman's rolls from Pat & Tush at the historic Stade. You can view details for this episode on the BBC Programmes page.

Local History:

The Old Hastings Preservation Society documents their visit to the town's famous fishing quarter.

At one point in the show, we are shown a photograph of a boat with the number 52RX.

In Series 4 Episode 4 of Beyond Paradise (The Mermaid Of Shipton Abbot), the boat belonging to Jeff Simmons has the number RX 369. As explained elsewhere in this site, 369 is the three digit Tesla number that is the concatenation of the three single digit Tesla numbers 3, 6 and 9.

Beyond Paradise (Season 4, Episode 4), Jeff Simmons' boat is named the "Sea Sparkle".

Significance of the Name: The name is a direct reference to the bioluminescent plankton (often called "sea sparkle") that fills the water during the episode.

Plot Context: Jeff claims to have seen the "Mermaid of Shipton Abbott" swimming through this glowing water near his boat on the night of the sabotage.

The Boat's Role: It serves as the primary location where Jeff (played by Henry Miller) is first interviewed by DI Humphrey Goodman and DS Esther Williams regarding his sightings.

RX 369 here could be an example of human intelligent design - perhaps whoever chose the number was familiar with the lore surrounding Tesla and used the number 369 to create a link to the mystical idea of mermaids.

Antiques road trip: mark stacey And will axon. Day 2.

The location you're thinking of is Bilsington Priory in Kent. It featured in Antiques Road Trip, Series 7, Episode 12 (Day 2 of Mark Stacey and Will Axon's trip).

The Medieval Crypt at Bilsington Priory

The "crypt" is actually a beautifully preserved 13th-century vaulted undercroft located beneath the Great Hall. While the primary priory buildings were largely destroyed after the Dissolution of the Monasteries, this specific part survived and now serves as a unique venue for weddings and events.

The Experts: Mark Stacey and Will Axon.

The Journey: They started this leg in Bilsington, traveling across Kent before heading to an auction in Sandwich.

Historical Context: Bilsington Priory was founded in 1253 as an Augustinian priory. The vaulted room shown on the program is one of the best examples of medieval architecture in the area.

Mark gets to hold a skull marked with a number ending in the number 57.
