D-Terrence

Deterrence is the act of discouraging an unwanted action, such as an armed attack or crime, by instilling fear or doubt of the penalties. It relies on the threat of retaliation - whether through military force or the legal system - to persuade an adversary or potential offender that the costs of acting outweigh the benefits.

The concept is widely applied across two main fields.

Military & International Relations.

In global security, deterrence prevents aggression through immense destructive capability and credible threats, famously characterized by nuclear deterrence.

Direct vs. Extended:

States use direct deterrence to prevent attacks on their own territory, and extended deterrence to discourage attacks on allies (e.g., NATO).

Policy Context:

In the UK, nuclear deterrence is managed via the continuous at-sea deterrent (CASD) using the Dreadnought submarine programme, aimed at deterring extreme threats to national security.

Criminal Justice & Law.

In criminology, the threat of punishment is used to prevent illegal behavior. It functions in two ways.

Specific (Individual) Deterrence:

Punishing a specific offender so they are personally discouraged from reoffending (e.g., a prison sentence).

General Deterrence:

Punishing an offender to send a clear message to the wider public, discouraging others from committing similar crimes (e.g., mandatory license revocation for a DUI)

Definition Of Fringer

  1. A person who makes fringes for garments.

  2. (scrapbooks) A device for making paper fringes.

  3. One who attends Fringe theater festival (e.g., the Edinburgh Fringe festival).

  4. A person on the fringe of anything; e.g. a crowd, or society in general.

The Chessboard From TempleOS

Beyond the ordinary

Yellow & Black and White is one of my favourite 3 colour combinations.

Yellow & Black and White Anglo Saxon Protestant. The WASP is also YABAWASP. YBW can, of course, be taken in any order.

A Chessboard from Qu 4 An Eight-On-It's&A-Side Game

In Qu, you can play a game involving an infinite number of pieces [representable by ∞ (an 8-On-It's-Side) at the same time as you play a game involving only a finite number of pieces (here, represented by 8 black pieces). Additionally, the game can be played in an infinite number of dimensions.

1st Thing About Terry Davis

Computer engineers have likened Terry Davis to Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs, noting that if not for his mental illness, he would have gone on to forge his name in human history. The man who created a program to enable man to speak ‘with God,’ is now a footnote in the annals of computation ingenuity, having accessed a public library computer only two hours prior to passing on August 11, 2018.

Walking In Front Of Trains

Terrence Andrew Davis (1969–2018) was an American computer programmer and electrical engineer. He is globally recognized for single-handedly creating TempleOS, a highly unique and complex operating system. His life was a deeply moving mix of technical mastery, severe mental illness, and deep religious devotion.

Early Life and Career.

Education: Davis was a remarkably gifted student who earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from Arizona State University.Professional Work: Before his health declined, he worked as an engineer for major corporations, including Ticketmaster.Mental Health: In 1996, Davis began experiencing regular manic episodes and was later diagnosed with schizophrenia.

The Creation of TempleOS.

In the early 2000s, Davis claimed that he received a direct revelation from God. He believed he was commanded to construct a divine temple in the form of an operating system.

HolyC Language: Davis built his own custom dialect of C, which he named HolyC.

The "Cathedral of Code": Working entirely alone for over a decade, he built a 64-bit operating system from scratch. It included its own compiler, kernel, graphics engine, and flight simulator.

System Specs: To mimic the simplicity of the Commodore 64, he capped the system at a 640x480 resolution with a 16-color display.

The Digital Oracle: The OS featured a random text generator. He believed God used this mechanism to communicate directly with users.

Later Years and Legacy.

As his schizophrenia worsened, Davis began live-streaming hours of vlogs and coding tutorials online. While his internet presence was heavily marred by erratic behavior and offensive rants, the tech community deeply respected his unmatched coding stamina.

By 2018, Davis was living on the streets of Oregon, refusing housing options from his online followers. Tragically, he was struck and killed by a train in August 2018 at the age of 48. He is widely remembered as a legendary "one-man army" of programming, whose monumental creation remains a striking testament to human perseverance.

Some Music Of Computational Randomness

Risen is the unofficial theme song of TempleOS, an operating system built entirely from scratch by the late programmer Terry A. Davis. The song serves as the background track or introduction to many of his official videos and presentation materials.

Origins and Creation.

Divine Randomness:

Davis programmed a built-in utility in TempleOS (which can be triggered by typing GodSong; or hitting F6). This tool utilised a random number generator—which Davis believed allowed God to communicate directly through the code—to generate melodies, adjust octaves, and add rests.

The Naming:

Davis randomly generated the name "Risen" for the file. According to his own source code comments, he told God, "Oh, you're ambitious," thinking it was an incredibly epic name. He noted that God laughed and blessed him with an epic melody to match.

Location in System:

The original song data is bundled natively inside TempleOS within the first supplemental pack directory under Sup1Hymns/TOSTheme.

Musical Composition.

The Key:

Risen is written in D Dorian, a popular minor-like scale featuring a raised 6th note (B natural instead of B flat), giving it a distinct, bright, yet medieval quality.

The Sound:

Structurally, it has higher melodic and chord-bass complexity than standard simple chiptunes. In its original state, it is played directly through a PC speaker with a raw, monophonic MIDI-like sound signature.

Legacy and Community Covers.

Following Davis's passing, Risen became an anthem for tech enthusiasts and fans honouring his complex legacy. Because Davis released the track into the public domain, it has been widely remixed and adapted.

Classical & Piano:

Artists have transcribed the piece into traditional sheet music, performing it as Classical Baroque interpretations or acoustic Piano Covers.

Electronic Formats:

The song is a staple in online niche subgenres, spawning Synthwave Remixes, techno adaptations, and ambient doomer-wave tracks.

The Call Of The Void

The thought of walking in front of a train, while incredibly distressing, is a recognised psychological phenomenon known as The Call Of The Void (or l'appel du vide). It is an intrusive thought where the brain experiences a sudden, fleeting impulse to do something dangerous without any actual desire to act on it.

Understanding why these thoughts happen can help demystify and manage them.

Survival Instinct Misinterpretation:

Psychologists suggest these thoughts often stem from a safety mechanism. Your brain is simply identifying a hazard, and in its attempt to keep you safe, it throws up a primal warning signal that gets misread by your conscious mind as an urge.

Not an Indicator of Intent:

The call of the void is very common and completely separate from suicidal ideation. You can experience it while perfectly sane and simply recoil from the thought. It often affects individuals who are highly sensitive to internal cues or experience higher base levels of anxiety.

Those familiar with the writing of H. P. Lovecraft might say that The Call Of The Void is The Call Of Cthulu. Cthulu's name can be given to this phenomenon even if it's only sometimes him.

A Great Machine Programmer

Greatness can be not only 'temple' but also temporal. At any given moment, The Greatest Computer (/Machine) Programmer In The World is the one with the top score of quality and quantity at that moment using a time standard of -est (Eastern Standard Time). The article in the title of this entry can then be replaced by The and then In The World can be added with wit.

The meridian 75° (°) west of Greenwich is a line of longitude that extends from the North Pole across the Arctic Ocean, North America, the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, South America, the Pacific Ocean, the Southern Ocean, and Antarctica to the South Pole.

The mean solar time of this meridian is the base for the Eastern Time Zone (UTC-5 during standard time).

The (EST) time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the 75th meridian west of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich.
