Mr Janus is most famously known in ufology as a mysterious, allegedly human-looking extraterrestrial figure who is claimed to have had an audience with Prince Philip in 1954.
The Meeting With Sir Peter Horsley.
In his autobiography Sounds from Another Room, Sir Peter Horsley—the equerry (royal assistant) to Prince Philip from 1949 to 1956—claimed that he spent two hours conversing with Mr Janus in a flat located in Chelsea, London.
Telepathic Abilities:
Horsley noted that Janus possessed a strange, otherworldly quality and was seemingly able to read his mind.
The Mission:
Janus expressed a deep, intimate knowledge of extraterrestrial life and flying saucers. He claimed to be an observer sent to Earth to help save the planet and explicitly requested a private meeting with Prince Philip, whom he called a 'man of great vision'.
The Royal Family's Reaction.
Prince Philip was highly fascinated by UFOs, subscribed to the Flying Saucer Review, and frequently investigated credible encounters. However, the planned meeting with Mr Janus never took place.

Janus is the mysterious, reclusive hacker and leader of the hacktivist group known as the Juggernaut Collective in the Deus Ex prequel games (Human Revolution and Mankind Divided). He serves as protagonist Adam Jensen's shadowy boss. Janus communicates exclusively using a heavily disguised voice and a constantly shifting digital avatar. Because the series went on an indefinite hiatus after Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, his identity was never explicitly unmasked in-game. However, strong evidence points to a specific culprit.
The Prevailing Canon: Volkard Rand
Within the community and leaks, it is widely accepted that Janus is Volkard Rand, a high-ranking member of the Illuminati.

An accidental leak in the game's official print guide and art assets mistakenly used an early concept art image of Volkard Rand directly on the profile entry for Janus.
In-Game Behavior:
During the post-credits scene of Mankind Divided, when other members of the Illuminati mention Janus's network, Rand shifts uncomfortably and looks away.

A prominent theory suggests that the Adam Jensen controlled by players in Mankind Divided is actually a clone. The theory posits that the real, original Adam Jensen survived the events of Human Revolution, went into hiding, and adopted the moniker 'Janus' (named after the two-faced Roman god) to fight back.
An Advanced AI:
Some fans believed Janus could be an early precursor to the highly advanced artificial intelligences found in the original Deus Ex game, such as Morpheus or Daedalus.
